Free Sites for Downloadable Media

  • Books Should Be Free - Free audiobooks from the public domain.
  • FSI Language courses - Public domain language learning texts developed by the Foreign Service Institute.
  • Gutenberg: The Audio Books Project - The first producer of free electronic books (ebooks). Listings are divided into two categories: Human-read and computer-generated audio books.  Printed e-books for your e-reader are also available.
  • Google Book Search - Download full copies of out-of-copyright books to read at your own pace. You're free to choose from a diverse collection of public domain titles -- from well-known classics to obscure gems.  Google also has an online bookstore.
  • LibriVox - Free audiobooks from the public domain. Read by volunteers - not trained audiobook readers.
  • manybooks.net - Free eBooks in many formats for e-readers.
  • Open Culture - Free audiobooks, online courses, podcasts, language lessons, and e-books.
  • Open Library - Public domain eBooks, plus links to physical copies of items in libraries and bookstores.
  • Smashwords - Many independent publishers and authors use this site to get their books out there for free or at a low cost.  Find local authors, popular authors with out-of-print titles, and much more here.
  • WOWIO - Readers download free ebooks and leading publishers are compensated by website advertising. Titles include graphic novels, classics, textbooks, popular fiction and non-fiction.
