The Path Not Taken
Who is to say that when I walk this trail
The trail does not walk on thee?
that those who have walked it before
Are no different from me?
There are those who say all wonder is lost,
Others say all that glitters is not gold.
When exploration only leads to worn paths,
It seems to me there is nothing left to unfold.
We spend our time quicker than our money,
Years, hours,
Days, seconds,
Shriveling away like raindrops of an April showers.
Time follows us,
Directly at our heels,
But sometimes one must step aside and stand out of line,
to feel what on one else feels.
Not everyone is finite,
The end is not always the end.
There's time, even if a little,
To make amends.
Second Place Teen Winner
Courtney (18 yrs.)
To The Fallen and To The Brave
To the fallen and to the brave,
There was so much left to accomplish,
It’s hard to believe all that you gave.
The sacrifices, the tears,
The blood and the sweat
A lot has been done in a couple of years,
But those years were not spent in vain.
There has been many obstacles conquered,
You have put to shame
To the fallen and to the brave,
Things may be different,
But we know you overcame
Experiences that well never be done,
But to gain so much honor and respect
Just for picking up that gun.
Your families will love you
And so will many others as well,
For the dangerous things you will do.
To the fallen and to the brave,
You will never be forgotten,
But things, will never be the same.
Third place teen winner
Emily (14 yrs.)
Angel in the Hospital Room
Elderly man of ninety-three sat up in his hospital bed
He heard the doctors talking, but “Cancer” the doctors said
He then laid back and tried to rest his tired, worrisome head
The old man cried
First tears of sorrow, then tears of joy
Because an angel held his hand tight
The angel whispered, “You will be going home soon”
And the man’s last prayers were said that night
When the morning came, the darkness evolved into light
And the luminous angel lead him home
He was lead through a kingdom
With a gate made of pearls and roads paved with gold
And into a church laced with astonishing beauty and excellence
Where he then faced Jesus
The elderly man fell to his knees
And Jesus knelt down beside him
Embraced him
Then carefully placed a golden crown upon his wrinkled head
Eternity had begun

No School!
Home is where I would to stay
Instead of going to school today
My excuses are many and here are a few
I have so much homework I don’t know what to do
The sun didn’t come up so it must be night
Oh where is the bus, its nowhere in sight
I woke up this morning putting up a fight
Just to realize Friday was last night!
Second Place Tween Winner
Bekah ( 11 yrs.)
Thinking Of You
As I am laying there,
Nothing to do,
I feel like I am in heaven,
Thinking of You,
Your sweet smile,
And kind eyes,
I don’t want this feeling to end,
With such painful goodbyes.
So you stay in my head,
And don’t ever go away.
I can always remember,
That amazing day,
When we first met.
Our hearts beating so fast.
Always thinking,
Let this last!
Picturing your face,
Your eyes sparkling blue.
While I am laying here,
Thinking Of You.
Third Place Tween Winner
Maelynn (12 yrs.)
Summer Solstice
Summer solstice
Beauty everlasting
Long, warm, inviting
The trees are dancers
Swaying to the music
Which is the breeze
The bright smiling sun
Glowing softly
As the dying embers of a summer’s bonfire
Waits to wave goodbye
Gently kissing the hilltop
Tender green shoots
Growing into trees
Growing to be like their ancestors
Swaying in the breeze
The end comes with a gentle sigh
Summer solstice
Saying goodbye
